Important information to know about your new blacktop:

Caring for Your Driveway

With 35 plus years of experience in the blacktop paving industry, we would like to share some important facts about your new asphalt driveway that will help lengthen the life of your investment.

During the hot summer months your driveway will soften and harden to a degree. You will find that watering your driveway will give you a temporary fix, but for only a few hours at most.  Even though every effort is made to avoid puddles in your driveway, some small ones may appear.

Parking - During the first 6-9 months while your driveway is curing, try to avoid parking in the same spot every day. Do not turn your steering wheel back and forth when your car is not moving. This will cause scaring in the blacktop and might not be able to be fixed.

Kick Stands – Kick stands on motorcycles and bikes will cause depressions in the blacktop. We suggest placing a piece of plywood under the stand to avoid this problem. Also, try to avoid jack stands and other narrow bases, for these will also cause depressions.

Spills - Oils, gas, and other car fluids can also harm the blacktop and cause it to deteriorate.

Trucks - Keep heavy trucks off your new driveway. The weight of these vehicles may compromise the integrity of the asphalt and will give you problems in the future.

Driveway Edges – The edges are the weakest part of your driveway due to the lack of side support. Avoid driving and parking on the edges since they will crack and crumble over time. We suggest building up the sides of your driveway with topsoil. This will support the edges, lengthen the life and enhance the appearance.
